savany (náhorních plošin) v nadmořské výšce od 1000 do
Mezi chovateli je tento druh poměrně hojně rozšířen (po škraboších a růžohrdlých). Populace Agapornise fischeri se v přírodě odhaduje asi na 100 000 exemplářů. Jsou to velice hluční ptáci a výborní letci. Jejich let je přímý a rychlý. Hnízdí v koloniích a to v dutinách baobabů a různých palem.
První odchov se podařil pravděpodobně v USA v roce 1925(četl jsem i 1926). Agapornis Fischeri si staví hnízdo - hnízdní materiál zanáší do budky tak, že si ho zobákem zastrčí do peří a v budce vyndá. Hnízdo staví samice. Nejraději mají vrbové proutí. Po dokončení hnízda samice začne snášet vajíčka, v průměru 5 vajec vzácně i 6 vajíček. Snáší je obden. Jejich inkubace trvá 20 - 21 dní. Po vyklubání se o ně stará nejdříve samice, později i samec. Asi po pěti až šesti týdnech vylétávají z budky, později je ještě dokrmuje samec. Měli by se nechávat hnízdit nejlépe 2x ročně, třetí hnízdění je rizikové a ptáčka velmi vysiluje.

krmením pro agapornise. To je proso, oves, lesknice, semenec, v malém množství
slunečnice. V chovné sezoně jim podáváme dostatek zeleného krmení. Největší
pochoutkou jsou pro ně semena v nedozrálém stavu, klasy ovsa, pšenice. Rádi
mají klasy kukuřice, obzvlášt v mléčném stavu.
Klec nebo voliéra by měla být z pevného materiálu, aby odolala silným zobákům. Do klece vkládáme vrbové proutí na okus. Ve venkovních voliérách je můžeme ponechat po celý rok, při přezimování není nutné přitápění. Musí však mít k dispozici vnitřní úkryt před mrazem.
Agapornisové jsou neustále aktivní, temperamentní a energičtí. Pohybují se ve všech patrech voliéry či klece, umí dobře létat, ale také rádi ŠPLHAJÍ. Pokud máme ptáčka jako mazlíčka, doporučuje se mu v chovatelských potřebách koupit různé hračky na rozptýlení, které však musí být dostatečně pevné, aby je ptáci nezničili nebo nepozřeli(umělé korálky). Rádi se koupou. Měli by mít po celý rok dostatek vody v nízkých kulatých miskách, nebo by jsme je měli poprašovat rozprašovačem na květiny
